The Fight Against COVID; On-Campus Vaccine Appointments Still Available

April 27, 2021

Dear Campus Community,

While we continue to see promising numbers in the decline of COVID cases in the state of Maryland, this pandemic continues to cause human suffering across the country and world, and we must not let our guard down.

I want to send a message of support to our international community members who have family and friends living in countries that are seeing a surge of cases and a lack of sufficient resources to fight COVID. We recognize that this must be very difficult to witness this struggle from afar and we extend our deepest sympathy to you and your loved ones.

Here in Maryland, we are privileged to have an abundant supply of vaccines available, and I urge you to take advantage of that and get vaccinated as soon as possible. Getting vaccinated is one of our best tools in the fight against COVID-19 to end the pandemic here and around the world.

On-Campus Vaccine Appointments Available
Safeway Pharmacy has numerous appointments available on Wednesday, April 28 and Monday, May 3 at Riggs Alumni Center to vaccinate UMD students, faculty, staff and their families. If you are interested, please make an appointment today. If you need assistance or accommodations to schedule an appointment, please call the HEAL Line at (301) 405-HEAL.

"University Days" at Mass Vaccination Sites in Maryland
The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) has worked closely with the Maryland Department of Health to identify "University Days" at various mass vaccination sites throughout Maryland, including the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is less than five miles from campus. On these days, campus community members, including students, faculty, and staff, can directly access vaccination appointments at any of the designated sites. Details on available dates and how to make an appointment are available here.

Stay Committed
As a reminder, all members of our community are expected to continue following the 4 Maryland healthy behaviors and get tested even after being vaccinated. As we prepare for mandatory vaccination for the fall, please continue to help us accurately measure the campus vaccination rate by self-reporting your vaccine status through the university's Daily Symptom Check.

Sincerely,

Since 2005 alone, Maryland has won 19 national championships, including NCAA titles in women’s basketball, men’s soccer, men's lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, and field hockey. Since joining the Big Ten Conference in 2014, UMD has won a combined 32 regular season and tournament championships. Fear the Turtle!

The Terp experience extends beyond classrooms, labs and studios. It encompasses residence halls and dining halls, clubs and sports, fraternities and sororities, campus events and performances, and countless off-campus destinations. Maryland touts 800-plus student organizations, dozens of prestigious living and learning communities, and countless other ways to get involved. Students here can create a unique identity and grow as individuals, even as they’re part of a close-knit and diverse community.
