Raise Your Voice

Raise Your Voice is a university-wide sexual assault prevention and awareness campaign. Raising your voice shows that you value respect and healthy relationships for yourself, your fellow Terps, and others in all aspects of life. Make a personal commitment to help prevent sexual assault and sexual misconduct and be a part of the solution.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024

Come to enjoy coffee and donuts, and discuss ways we can build healthy dating, sexual, and platonic relationships. We'll unpack cultural scripts related to consent, power, and sex and their impact on norms and expectations for relationships, and the ways that we can rethink those scripts Stop by as your schedule allows; all are welcome!

Join the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) for their annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) Resource Fair! On October 4 from 12 PM to 2 PM, the SAPC and partner organizations will be on McKeldin Mall to promote awareness and services related to power-based violence prevention and response on campus. Come browse tables and meet with representatives from various organizations. Cookies and refreshments will be provided, as well.

The Clothesline Project is a visual representation of the impacts of sexual and relationship violence on the campus community. This event from the CARE Office provides community members with an opportunity to confront the issue of power-based violence by creating and displaying their own messages on a shirt during DVAM.

This workshop will focus on how to respond and navigate supporting a friend, peer, or partner that has been impacted by sexual misconduct. In this workshop, we will discuss what to do, how to respond, and also understand the importance of self-care.

BISS will be partnering with CARE to Stop Violence during Bias Awareness Week to present a bystander intervention workshop incorporating a creative approach to a traditional workshop in a fun way. This workshop will emphasize both BISS and CARE to Stop Violence as campus resources in an effort to explore how students can be active participants in addressing bias on campus. Due to paint supplies and light refreshments being served this event does have limited capacity; please RSVP!

A workshop to educate and bring awareness to students and community about the different types of relationship/dating abuse such as verbal, physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental abuse. Relationship abuse can show various forms. It is important to recognize that it goes beyond physical for early signs to leave an unhealthy relationship.

PLN is an event to honor victims and survivors of relationship violence during DVAM. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to join CARE to Stop Violence Outreach Peers to learn about relationship violence and its impact on students, what you can do to help someone who has been impacted, and what resources exist on and off campus.

Reclaim the Red is an annual event hosted by the Sexual Misconduct Prevention Committee of SGA to promote resources and awareness for the Red Zone, the first six to eight weeks of the fall semester in which an increased number of sexual assaults and related incidents occur. The event aims to spread awareness regarding healthy relationships through programming, tabling and resources from power-based violence prevention and response organizations (on/off campus).

About the SAPC

The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) is a committee of stakeholders on campus who meet monthly. This section includes an overview of the sexual assault prevention plan, summary of activities, list of committee members and their office websites, and the contact information of the committee point person.

Athletics

Home of the Terrapins, the University of Maryland has one of the nation’s most recognizable and successful athletics programs. More than 550 student-athletes compete each year in 20 intercollegiate sports—12 for women and eight for men. Since 2005 alone, Maryland has won 19 national championships, including NCAA titles in women’s basketball, men’s soccer, men's lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, and field hockey. Since joining the Big Ten Conference in 2014, UMD has won a combined 32 regular season and tournament championships. Fear the Turtle!
