Building upon a strong foundation in library science and information studies, the College of Information has grown into an education and research powerhouse in human-computer interaction, digital libraries, cloud computing, information access, e-government and social media. The Philip Merrill College of Journalism prepares students for an exciting and rapidly evolving field while grounding them in ethics and the fundamentals of reporting and writing. Its curriculum trains students to investigate, present information fairly and accurately, and tell effective stories. Successful students are prepared for a variety of jobs in digital, television, radio and print newsrooms, and the communication skills learned in journalism classes are valuable to government offices and private organizations.
The School of Public Health takes on pressing public health issues facing local communities, the nation and the world. Policy Terps are committed to making a positive difference by taking on the most challenging problems facing our world. The school equips students with a sophisticated, in-depth understanding of domestic and international problems and educates them about the values and perspectives needed to shape sustainable, innovative solutions.
Office of Undergraduate Studies
The office oversees undergraduate programs of academic excellence, personal development and professional preparedness including General Education, the Honors College, Letters and Sciences, ROTC, Fellows programs and the National Scholarships Office.
As home base for UMD’s graduate community, the Graduate School offers guidance and support to students, ensures academic excellence and consistent quality across programs, and builds robust research and educational programs.
