A Proud Tradition

UMD has one of the nation’s most recognizable and successful athletics programs—backed by a dedicated Terp fan base.

Our eight men’s teams and 12 women’s teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. Eight Maryland programs have combined to win 47 national championships, including the 1953 football team and the 2022 men’s lacrosse team, which finished with a perfect 18-0 record to earn its 13th title.

The B1G Effect

Since joining the Big Ten Conference in 2014-15, UMD has scored with new revenues, expanded exposure and athletic achievements.
